The Champion of Wales final finally got underway, following the late withdrawal of the original sponsor . Julian Shambrook, of Anyfish Anywhere came to the rescue providing prizes to the value of £400. The event took place at Pwllheli with anglers from all over the principality attending this prestigious event with former World Champion Alan Price heading a list of who's who in the Welsh Angling world, conditions could be described as perfect , with a buss amongst the competitors that fish would be abundant as soon as the draw was made anglers headed off to their pegs As soon as the whistle went leads were hitting the water at varying distances , with baited breath anglers were expecting their rod tips to be nodding ,but soon it was obvious this was not going to be a busy match , Dewi Hughes from North Wales switched tactics and was soon into bream followed by another Angler from south Wales, Ray Christo ,as the time passed it was soon obvious this was a two horse race, however former World champion Alan price had different ideas ,with a complete change of tactics Alan was hot on the heels of Dewi ,but it was to late Dewi held his nerve and clinched this prestigious title by a slim margin. The WFSA have agreed to open up next years event to all nominated club champions including the various regional qualifiers making the event a major calendar competition. |
