World Championships Italy 2011

A brief report on this event as unfortunately the whole thing was a complete and utter shambles.  I been lucky enough to have attended 5 previous World Championships and this was undoubtedly the worst – running from poor organisation, poor communication, poor hotel accommodation to poor fishing and worst of all the spirit of attending a major event in the angling competition calendar was completely ruined.  I could go on for hours listing the individual problems we encountered but I am just about starting to recover from the ordeal and really want to forget about it as quickly as possible!
Suffice to say the fishing was good in the practice week when we fished the 4 beaches that were scheduled to be used.  In reality only two beaches were used and these were alternated each day between the men and women’s events – not good!  The Welsh Team finished 9th out of 12 teams – a one place improvement on our last championship but sadly not reflective of the amount of preparation, practise and money spent by each of our team members and their families.
I would like to thank our committed sponsors for supporting the team:-

Tronixpro – check out their great new website www.tronixpro.com
Tubertini – www.tubertini-sea.co.uk
Stenaline – www.stenaline.co.uk

Thanks must also go to the ladies team partners & hubbies for their support, but especially Clive and Dave who walked the beaches night after night for us and to Clive who went to the Captains meetings/weigh-ins and  not getting back to the hotel until 4am!!!!!!!!!!!

We are looking forward to Holland in 2012 – team will be announced in late November.  A new style qualification process for the team will be introduced next year, details later on in the year.

Welsh Ladies Team win ‘unofficial’ Home Internationals

The Welsh Ladies Team return victorious following the recent international match against the English Ladies Team.  This was the second annual event which was set up by the two respective Team Managers to assist in their teams development in international angling.  The two teams travelled to Norfolk for the weekend with the plan of fishing Kelling Beach for the fiercely contested match.  Both teams arrived on the Friday for a practice session where conditions were tough with a stiff north-easterly wind blowing.  However there were plenty of fish caught and both teams left the beach confident and looking forward to the match itself.

The following morning brought worsening conditions with the wind blowing even stronger than the previous day.  At the match venue the decision was made to move the match to the blow-off venue of the Great Ouse Estuary at Kings Lynn.

Fishing on the estuary was slow to say the least but eventually Wales were declared the winners with our five anglers beating England’s seven anglers outright.

We would like to thank Wendy Metcalfe and members of the Holt SAC for organising the event.  We would also like to thank our sponsors Stenaline at Goodwick and Tronix for supplying the team with match winning tackle.

The event will be held in Wales again next year unless Ireland or Scotland are able to form teams in which case we will finally be able to compete in the official Home Internationals alongside the other home nations teams.
