The South West Region held their first match of 2010 on 14th February at Pendine. Match Report 17th Jan 2010. Pembrokeshire s.a.c held its first competition of 2010 on sunday 17th jan. The venue chosen was a Haven rover which meant fishing was allowed anywhere within the Milford Haven waterway, fishing between 2pm and 9pm. The weather was favourable compared to the previous couple of weeks with light westerly winds and a clear sky, with booking and weighing in a gelliswick beach, Most anglers decided to try out South Hook ledges, after hearing favourable reports over previous few weeks of some large fish being landedand seemingly plenty of species showing. The fishing was best described as patchy, with fish either showing for all anglers, or long spells with not as much as a bite for anyone present. A heavy swell of up to 20ft at times made fishing rather awkward, and as the tide approached high water reduced the area for anglers to fish, as they were forced higher up the rocks. Aber Rheidol Boat Association Phil Hatch - info@aber-rheidol.com Aber Sea Anglers - helenpearce@toucansurf.com Report for Executive meeting 15th November 2008 The West Region is beginning to now take shape with two new clubs being affiliated - a casting club which is primarily a coaching club rather than a purely tournament casting club and a new project for the area - the Ceredigion Angling Coaching Project. The project is targeting schools, youth offending teams, young carers, youth groups, and the disabled and offering angling coaching mainly aimed at young people in the first year. The project offers local youngsters the chance to learn how to fish and gives them an alternative to the team sports currently on offer in the area. The project is working with the council to get a permanent base, initially a porta-cabin with the aim of building a permanent base in the next year to 18 months. This will give us a classroom facility, office space and storage. In coming years the project will then widen its remit to adults and be able to offer coaching for people who have never fished before up to more specialized aspects of the sport, we also hope to be able to combine with other angling disciplines so the facilities are used to their full potential. The project has a development plan and is currently seeking funding to support this. The region has negotiated a joint membership scheme between two local clubs the shore club and boat club. This gives members the opportunity of becoming a member of both clubs at a reduced cost which will allow more events to be held in the region for club members to enjoy and will boost membership. Coaching within the region has really taken off with the first event being during National Fishing Week where youngsters and adults came along for a day to try out fishing at Llanrhystud. We now have two new Sea Angler magazine casting instructors in the region and three new FWA Level 1 coaches. We are currently waiting for three more coaches to go on courses which will mean we will be able to offer more events in the region and help out in other areas. The region has also been working together with the local Fisheries Officer and we have secured one prosecution so far for illegal sea trout in a net and a net with an illegal mesh size. The Fisheries Officers are now regularly patrolling the coastline from Cardigan to the north of our region and they have been pulling nets and pots to check for any irregularities. They are also working with us to provide talks to youngsters and club members and have provided minimum size limit posters which have been put up in popular fishing spots. They have also given us booklets, information sheets and posters for us to put into our club membership packs. In the next few months we will be starting a Pairs League in the region and organising some joint club events. Our next meeting will be our AGM in February.
